Argentina is currently the fifth largest wine producer in the world. The country has been making wines for over 400 years, after immigration from Spain, France and Italy. The wines are well known for their excellent value for money, you can find high quality, interesting wines for a snip of the price of areas such as France and Germany. Many Argentinian white wines are made from the famous Torrontes grape. This produces the distinctive taste of Argentinian white wine. Wine made from this grape in Argentina has received numerous awards and has become popular throughout the world. 2005 Don David Torrontes is an excellent dry white wine which comes from north west Argentina. This is an excellent purchase from those wishing to sample top Argentinian wines. This wine is extremely aromatic and complex. It has very fruity flavours, mainly tropical fruit such as pineapple and lime. This wine is very versatile, it can be drank on its own, but also pairs very well with many different dishes including Pork, Seafood, Chicken and Spicy foods. The wine is hand harvested using sustainable practices. The wines produced from this grape are very classy and distinctive. They have a fresh taste with a crisp finish.


A fantastic Torrontes is the 2007 Colomé Torrontes, from the region of Salta. This wine is yellowy gold in colour and will be ideal for drinking in around six months time. It was produced in the mountainous regions of Argentina and is a fine example of how the Torrontes grape can make stunning wines. This wine is priced very reasonably and is one you should definately try. Another wine to watch out for is the Bodega Tapiz Torrontés 2008, this recently won a trophy at the International Wine Awards. This is a delicate, easy to drink wine which has become popular across the world. It contains floral and citric aromas and is a highly reasonable price. You can also find very cheap Torrontes, the Asda Argentinian Torrontés 2008 costs only £4.24 and is an absolute delight to drink. This wine recently won a silver medal at the International Wine Awards.

Argentina also produces excellent Chardonnays. The climate in Argentina produces ideal conditions for the grape, making the most interesting Chardonnays in the Americas. The 2005 Andeluna Cellars Reserve Chardonnay is an ideal Argentinian wine. It is a pale yellowy colour and sweet. This wine has fantastic aromas of apple, pear, peaches and pineapples. With notes of tropical fruit, butter, vanilla and some gorgeous spices. It has a very buttery and creamy feel to it. This wonderful wine is extremely good value for money, as are many Argentinian white wines. The grapes of this wine come from a vine which is 50 years old. The Bodega Septima Chardonnay 2007 is also an excellent Argentinian white wine, it is extremely refreshing and you can find it for a remarkably low price.

Argentina also produces some well regarded Sauvignon Blancs. Argentina is particularly suited to producing this white wine due to its well suited climate. It generally produces a dry white wine with fantastic acidity and has an aromatic flavour. One highly recommended Sauvignon Blanc is Pascual Toso Sauvignon Blanc 2008. This wine has won numerous awards for its high quality. It is extremely fine and elegant, with citrus flavours. It is excellent quality, particularly for the price. Finca Sophenia Alto Sur Sauvignon Blanc 2007 is also one to try. This Sauvignon Blanc has strong citrus flavours and a vibrant feel. It should be drunk by the end of 2009 and is priced at less than £8.00, which is a fantastic price for a wine of this quality.

Argentina produces some absolutely stunning white wines. These new world wines are of remarkable quality and interest to many, yet the prices are extremely reasonable. White wine produced from the Torrontes grape is extremely popular in Argentina and throughout the world. Wines from this grape have won numerous awards and have received interest from across the world. Argentinian Chardonnay is also available to buy. This is again, of a high quality and is a must have for any wine collection. Although not as popular as Chardonnay, Argentinian Sauvignon Blanc is a must try wine. The climate in Argentina produces some vibrant and fantastic Sauvignon Blancs, at remarkably low prices.
