Plunkett Blackwood Ridge Chardonnay

Colour: Light, pale yellow, slightly watery.

Scents: Pineapple, lemon and a hint of thyme – delicious!

Taste: With notes of melon and citrus, this wine has a very clean flavour – no nasty aftertaste.

ABV: 13.5%

Thoughts: A fruity chardonnay isn’t hard to find, though the Plunkett 2008 has to be one of the nicest I’ve tasted in a while, simply by being slightly more subtle than your average chardonnay. The difference here is the clean taste, leaving you wondering if the wine is actually masquerading as a Sauvignon blend – it is incredibly drinkable and doesn’t leave any harsh chemical tastes (as some chardonnays are prone to). Considering the vineyard is located in central Victoria – a region of Australia not generally known for its wines – this Plunkett gem has left us wondering what other tasty wines are going to emerge from this area.

Overall rating: 3.5/5
