Finca El Picador Sauvignon Blanc 2008

The first thought on tasting this wine was “oooh this is really nice” leaving me wanting more and more as it is an excellent very easy to drink Chilean Sauvignon Blanc.

It is recommended that this Central Chilean wine is best served well chilled with chicken dishes but I drank it with a smoked fish pie and it stood up really well. I believe it would combine well with any food or just be great on its own.

The Central Valley has a Mediterranean climate and it produces the majority of Chilean wine. Chile’s wine regions are classified by the rivers that run across the valley which carry lots of melted snow during the growing season. Picador means a lancer mounted on horseback who would assist a Matador as the National sport of Chile is the Rodeo (Bullfighting).

I put my nose to the glass and took a deep sniff ( yes the wine went up my nose!) but the aroma was fantastic of light summer green fruits being picked fresh from the bushes, and the colour is of light straw.
I found this wine fresh and crisp with a lively finish, very pleasant and smooth in the mouth, coming back slightly dry. There are gooseberry notes and a lovely balanced flavour from start to finish.

The labelling left me a little confused, I could not make my mind up if I thought it to look inexpensive or the gold lettering made it look classy.

A highly enjoyable wine and I would rate it 9/10.

We enjoyed this wine while out but it seems to be available online from Nicks Wines
