Win Some Wine For The Summer

by The Content Team on June 23, 2009

in Competitions

I decided it would be fun to help spread the word about this site and to give away some wine at the same time. The prize will be a mixed case of wine delivered direct to your door by a retailer of our choice! Obviously this competition is only open to over 18s and my decision is final :) For shipping reasons I can only really send you the wine if you are in the UK.

You can enter in two different ways which will each give you a chance to win,

  1. Comment Entry: Leave a comment on this site telling us about your favourite bottle of wine – your comment doesn’t need to be wordy but just an explanation of what you have enjoyed recently and why. White wine comments can be left on this post and red wines over here
  2. Twitter Entry: Follow us @whiteandred then tweet about this competition and share it with your twitter followers

Either option gets you an entry and if you do both then that’s two entries. The twitter option is easy but I really would love to hear about what you like to drink.

Closing date is the end of July and then I’ll get in touch with the lucky winner and get some wine sent to you :)

I’m quite partial to a nice Sancerre. Superb flavours, and really goes well with a BBQ in this lovely weather!

The true taste of summer has to be the delightfully refreshing and superbly flavoured Chenin Blanc – Goes with anything and perfect just on its own

Beverley July 1, 2009 at 1:10 pm

I’m drinking a lot of Riesling just lately – cool and refreshing in this heatwave!

Fraser Edwards July 1, 2009 at 1:16 pm

Thanks for the comments guys. Any specific wines you would suggest?

I’ve been trying a couple of Rieslings recently too but nothing to recommend yet!

Being a Rose drinker I still prefer the old favourite, Mateus Rose. Very refreshing chilled.

I usually drink Blossom Hill wines as they go with anything and are good value.

I have been enjoying Rieslings with meals but for sitting out with friends during this hot weather my wine of choice is Casillero del Diablo Shiraz Rosé as its on the dry side and has a lovely fruity flavour maiking it very easy to drink!

Martin Best July 2, 2009 at 10:29 pm

Has to be a delicately chilled Chablis Premier Cru

Trevor Noddles July 2, 2009 at 11:22 pm

My favourite Red is Beaune, from the bone it has a full body built around it!

Fiona Coles July 3, 2009 at 5:02 am

Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc – perfect for the current heatwave in the UK :) – an elegant NZ sauvignon blanc bursting with citrus and tropical fruit flavours.

Cath July 3, 2009 at 7:53 am

I’m partial to a Pinot Grigio at the moment. Light and fresh especially during the current heatwave!

Tried lots of wines but always end up back with Blossom Hill.

Helen Clegg July 3, 2009 at 8:19 am

In this hot weather, there’s nothing nicer than a cold prosecco in my opinion!

Sarah Pyke July 3, 2009 at 10:04 am

I love Blossom Hill Zifendal. It has a hint of melon and strawberries, and is perfect for the summer, especially when chilled, or with a couple of blocks of ice!

kathy monan July 3, 2009 at 11:16 am

You can not beat a chilled Chablis!

Hazel July 19, 2009 at 5:45 pm

The nicest wine I ever drank was icewine – from the vineyard owner’s family reserve. It had been given to a friend and he shared it with us. It was a white wine and truly was the nectar of the Gods and I doubt I will ever enjoy a glass of wine more!

leigh July 20, 2009 at 8:58 pm

I have just discovered Vecchio rose – perfect Saturday night chill out wine :-)

Christa Hugo July 23, 2009 at 3:52 pm

Lyndsay Huntbach July 29, 2009 at 12:46 pm

laura crilly July 30, 2009 at 8:58 pm

My favoutire white wine is Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc and I always stock up when its on offer.

Pam July 31, 2009 at 1:12 pm

I like Austrian whites. Unfortunately, they are not easy to get in the UK at the moment, but they taste very good – dry, crisp, citrusy! Grüner Veltliner is the main grape variety. If you like Rosé – there is a really special ‘drop’ –> Schilcher from the region of Styria (look for the white horse emblem).

A deliciously dry Frascati it seems hard to locate but is well worth the search.
